HMTC Presents GENERATIONS: An Event Honoring Holocaust Survivors & Liberators

“Religious and cultural tolerance is more important than ever. Having survivors of genocide to educate others is more than we could ask for—a first-hand account of their experiences, and for us all to learn how we can build a solid future going forward as a society.”

- Brad Gerstman, Esq., board member and spokesman, Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Long Island

Please join us as we honor the living witnesses to the Holocaust and celebrate their enduring legacies

Hofstra University

The program features films, workshops, panel discussions, eyewitness testimony, and noted speakers, including:

Major General Sidney Shachnow (ret.)

He is the only Holocaust survivor to achieve the rank of general in the history of the United States military. At age seven, Shachnow was imprisoned in the Kovno concentration camp in his home country of Lithuania. At age ten, he escaped from the Nazi camp and lived in hiding until liberation. His escape prompted a six-month, 2,000 mile journey across Europe that eventually landed him in the US. He entered school for the first time at age 16, later enlisting in the United States Army. He is also a graduate of Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts.
